  • Garone's Very Cool Boat

Wow! I am so behind in blogging! Summer is flying by and I don't have time to breath. Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I've just been having too much fun to stop and write. I'm sorry. I'll try to do better. See, I've been busy hanging out of a helicopter shooting the Garone's Sunsation boat. This thing goes 100 mph. so it wasn't easy to catch up with. A magazine is doing an article on it. Right now the article is on the engine. But they really need to do one on this paint job. It's incredible! The boat now has the book of Revelations painted on it. As Christians they really studied the book to get it right. The boat was sent to North Carolina to get it painted. Now it's back home in Denver. They took me out on it after shooting. Now I have boat envy. This isn't good... Of course we need more pictures so I have to go back out in a couple of weeks on the lake. I just hate it when that happens. Thanks so much Joe and Leann for such a fun shoot! Can't wait for Ashlie's wedding in August!

  • Life's Little Annoyances Cont.

Two more things I forgot to mention earlier.

~ those little head pieces that go to your cell, people wearing them look schizophrenic. They're just walking around talking to no one that present people can see. And if their hair is covering the piece, it's really scary. Just take them off and pick up your phone all ready.
Unless you're with secret service, you really don't need this. None of us are as important as we would like to believe.

~ when you're in line to pay for something or trying to order in front of me at a drive thru, hang up please. It's extremely annoying when you have to wait for someone to finish their conversation to pay. And we've been over this, I'm busy. Tick tock. I have to be some where.
Oprah might be waiting on me to watch her show.

I do love cell phones. We just have to remember our manners when using them. I don't want to hear about your bout with diarrhea before you left home an hour ago or your girlfriend's messy breakup with her cheating boyfriend. Again, I don't care. :) TMI people.
There was a reason God invented party lines and phones that had a dial, to keep us off of them! Some of you won't know what I'm talking about. Just ask someone over 45. They will. :)

  • Cell Phones and Life's Little Annoyances

Okay, right now, all you cell phone users (and yes this includes me) go get your cell phones. Yes, right now. I'll wait. Go find your cell phone. Now, dial your voice mail. Again, I'll wait... have you dialed yet? I'm still waiting... Okay, now you have the iritating recorded voice system. Right? Dial in what ever number you need to for options. When it gives you the option of turning off the recorded message telling the dimwits that call you to dial 5 to leave a number, 1 to leave a message blah blah blah... turn it OFF PLEASE! I'm going through 3,000 minutes a month and I'll bet half of those are spent listening to this message. I have nightmares that I'm trapped in hell for eternity with this lady giving me my options. By now, everyone has this memorized. And if they don't, they'll figure it out when they hear the little beep. If they can't figure it out, do you really want to talk to them anyway? Now for some other stuff:

~ if you leave your cell charger plugged in when you're not using it, it's still taking power. This is called "phantom power" and if we all could burden ourselves for 2 seconds a day and unplug it, it would be equivalent to taking 100,000's of cars off the road for a year. Yes, thats HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of cars. For my friends living in LA (aka, home of the brown air) this would really help you along with the rest of us.

~ if you're driving, please hang up. A 9 year old little girl was recently killed near Denver. She was riding her bike home from school. She happened to be in the bike lane while a lady in a SUV was busy on her cell. The lady doesn't even remember hitting her. To all you parents out there, put yourself in this little girl's parents shoes for just one minute. Hang up. The person you so desperately need to talk to will still be there when you can stop and talk. And yes, I've used my cell phone hundreds of times while driving. I won't any more. This story just really got to me. Talking on a cell while driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving. Studies have proved this. We are distracted and the person on the other end of the phone can't tell when you're trying to merge into traffic or going through a school zone.

~ if your message is longer than 10 -20 seconds, do a new one please. I couldn't care less what you're out doing or that you're out chasing your cat through the meadow enjoying spring. I don't care. All I care about is that you call me back. Now, if you're out of the country and can't receive calls, then I need to know this so I'm not sitting by my phone waiting on a call that's not coming. Other than that, just tell me who I've reached. That's all I really want to know.

~ if you can possibly answer your phone (when you're not driving - read above) then please answer it. Models are notorious for this. Everyone just leaves messages and then we play phone tag for days. Here's the deal though. If I'm needing a model for a job or a makeup artist etc, I just call someone else when I don't get an answer. I'm busy. I know you're busy. It's easier for me to run down my phone index and pick another person. I don't have a week to play tag. My phone is usually laying next to the tub when I'm in the shower. Yes, it's inconvenient. But my schedule gets a little crazy sometimes. I don't want a client having to wait while we tag each other. If they have a question for me, then I need to be there to answer it. They have no idea that some days I don't get to hit the showers till 9 or 10 in the morning. And it's really not their problem. They just need me. So I make sure I'm available. My clients love that.

~ if you have a question that is going to require a long answer, don't text it to me. Call me please. It could take me an hour to type out my answer on my cheap little phone. Its quicker to just call sometimes.

Whew! I feel much better now. :) Sorry no pictures today. I have tons of stuff to blog about later though with very colorful pics. I promise. Now hang up your phone and remember the commandments above please. They're number 11-16. You know, right after those first Big 10.
    Thank you!!!

  • "And they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly - Hills that is, swimming pools, movie stars

This was my first time in southern Cali. Can you believe it? I've vacationed and taught workshops in San Fran, Montery, Carmel and Big Sur, oh and Yosemite. But never been to LA or San Diego. I liked them! Everything in CA is washed with this incredible warm light. You don't get those qualities on the east coast. Denver has incredible light. But it's different than California's. I really enjoyed the short time I had there. The Hotel Del Coranado took me back to Marilyn Monroe and Some Like It Hot. That movie is hillarious if you've never seen it. In case you didn't get the title, I'm from Tennessee ( I know, you would have sworn I'm a yankee with this accent) and it was my first time in southern Cali., and I probably came across as a Jed to most natives. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the few images I took as a gawking tourist.

  • Terrance Branch

Several years ago I met this cute, young couple in NC when I shot their portfolios. They wanted to be actors. So before we started shooting I explained to them that the paid acting jobs in Elizabeth City, NC were ZERO. I didn't want to take their money if I knew there was no hope of them ever actually earning it back. So with a little stipulation that they must move to L.A. we started working together. Well, fast forward 4 years or so, and Terrance and Kiesha are now living in Escondido. (I can't believe they listened to me! What were they thinking?!). So recently when Terrance was needing to update his portfolio, he called me and asked me to come out to CA. Of course I said yes! We all had a blast that week. And after posing for my camera for a few days, Terrance became a little "loopy" as they like to refer to it in the mental health industry. He began dancing in the street by the Hotel Del, turning flips in mid air, even got cornered by my friends in Die Like Kidd up in Burbank. We even saw a car that was hit by a tree down by the Hotel Del. The tree jumped right out in front of the car! It was a fun week. I miss these guys!
